The Hohenwald Oktober Heritage Festival is an annual tradition over 40 years old! On the second full weekend of each October, we set up a stage in town for local musicians to perform, have bounce house fun for kids, create booth space for vendors of arts & crafts, and invite food vendors to come sell their wares.
In addition to the festivities in town, there is a 20 mile yard sale on Highway 20! This part of the Heritage Festival grew organically, as our local townsfolk saw an opportunity to join forces with our festival.
A few years ago, the festival was renamed from Oktoberfest to the Oktober Heritage Festival, and we are gradually adding events to highlight the different cultures that created Hohenwald. The "Oktober" highlights the Swiss-German founders of the town, hence the German name Hohenwald meaning "high forest."
